Each day
Every day I come here to this place, expecting only the same.
Every day is only a song stuck on repeat,
A continuous rhythm of fluttering pages, scrapping pencils, slamming lockers, and dull teachers.
Every day I come here and sit in the same desk in each dull class, seeing only the blurry old faces, and hearing the same high and low pitches.
Today I played my part in the repeat as always, slamming my locker as I continue on.
Today I turned and I thought I saw you,
Something new and bright.
Today the song changed, beating quickly along with my heart, picking up the tempo.
But today when he stepped forward it was not you,
My eyes burned and throat choked.
Today I started to hate him even though I do not know him or even have spoken to him.
Tonight I spoke to you and felt at peace.
Tonight the song was calm and loving,
Tomorrow it will be infuriating and he will wonder why I hate him and what he did.
Then the next day when he approaches to ask,
I will coldly brush past him and I will wonder…
“Why do I hate him yet, love you?”
