I am anonymous;
Names have no meaning to me.
I wish to see what's really inside,
For that's the real identity.

When I truly look at myself,
Maybe I'm not a nobody.

I see a child high on the swings,
So young and light and free.
And yet she is still swinging higher –
To be above her troubles, maybe?

I see a girl ready to fly.
But something makes her see
That she isn't all she thought,
She was supposed to be.

I see an adult making choices,
Confident, ready to believe
That she embraces her freedom.
But with it comes responsibility.

I am anonymous, but who am I really?
When I look inside, I find I am all three.

The author has written for Teen Ink before, but thought it would be better suited to the poem if she was anonymous.
