A shaky old barn

Swinging from a rope in the hayloft
Nearly braking their necks
every time

Pulled down for safety's sake
The House

One of those tumbledown places

With hound dogs lazing around the front door
Yellow-pine floors

Soaked

with Coral Hadley's tears

The milkweed was shining,

Illuminated by bands of sunlight

If you looked at it the right way

Everything blurred

into one

bright and gleaming

horizon.

Made her throw all good sense away

He'd said of the farm
