Taking Flight
And she closed her eyes;
Daring her soft lids
To betray her.
They did.
She prayed no one noticed her sadness,
Sliding down her cheek.
They didn’t.
And she longed to escape.
From this room
From this skin
She couldn’t.
And she didn’t know why.
Why it was her,
And not them.
Why did they get to fly
When she had to fall?
Maybe she could
Take flight too, but
She wont.
And in the darkness,
Her darkness
She paints
That familiar smile on her face
And wonders who will
Remember her.
I will.
