The smallest of smiles,
Came from that hooded face.
First emotions were,
The first signs of Life.

He turned away from me,
That blank face returning.
I touched his shoulder, waiting for
The first sign of Life.

Softly, yet he still spoke,
Ancient words I did not recognize.
I sighed, but patiently
The first sign of Life.

The figure stood still and alone,
Then, quick as a lightning strike,
He disappeared from my sight,
The first sign of Death.

Smiling almost sadly,
Knowing his only chance
Of becoming alive was gone, with
The first sign of Life.

Day after day, week after week,
I slowly became a statue.
A cold, bitter statue,
The first sign of Death.

Tears burned the inside,
The inside of my heart.
Unknowingly, I was moving quickly now, to
The first sign of Death.

No one helped,
No one tried,
I saw nothing, but
The first sign of Death.

I wondered when I fully became nothing,
Until a small figure walked up to me, whispering.
With a start, I realized, this was,
The first sign of Life.

He spoke, no longer in his alien voice,
Forgive and Forget.
My tears dried, and I began to start anew,
The first sign of the Awakening.
