So much work--

but all for nothing.
They built me up, so tall and strong.
I failed them.
I was supposed to be the foundation of a great city.

Instead, I incurred the wrath of God.

I stood and watched
it all crumble apart.
Could I have stopped it?
Because of me,

Humanity is divided.

NO!
It is not my fault.
People did this--

Brought it upon themselves.
All they wanted was fame and fortune.
Thought they could reach heaven through me?

Well do you know what has happened because of you,

greedy, selfish human beings?
It is the end of mankind as we know it.
Dispersed, throughout the world.

I heard people I once recognized talking in different tongues
I could not understand.
It is all because of you, and your desire to be known.

This was another poem for my english class. We were supposed to take anything from the bible, and write a poem about that story from another perspective. So this is from the perspective of the tower of babel (in case you couldnt tell from the title)
