Change The World?
So many songs
 With their lyrics,
 Telling me to reach out
 And change the world

 With my own two hands
Or with a hug given freely
 I’m sitting here waiting,
Because I can’t reach that far

 A child hides in Darfur
 Where prejudice is killing
 Hunting innocents
 Who will stand for them?

 Am I that person?
 Who can comfort that child?
Who can prevent that next death?
 Who can change the world?

A kind word here doesn’t help
 Compared to those harsh words
Spreading like a virus, preventing change
 Smothering the hopeful cheers

But if I turn to my neighbor today
And I say a simple “Hello”
Ask them how they are doing?
 Can I change their lives?

If they just passed that smile on
 To one more person
 Who desperately needs it?
Perhaps then we can change the world.
