Ode to Chocolate
Chocolate.
Succulent. Magic. Waiting to be devoured.
Calling to me.
The remedy to all wounds.
At that first moment the delicacy touches the lips,
it touches the soul.
Embraces it.
All hardships are momentarily kept at bay,
in that frozen instant
That the chocolate nourishes the soul.
The warmth that emanates from it,
the comfort, the power.
All in one tiny bite.
Pain and suffering melt,
just as chocolate slides down the throat.
Vanishing.
Although everything has slipped away,
the flavor lingers. Delectable.
Healing.
But then it’s gone.
Leaving an empty space in the heart.
The lasting contentment finally ebbing away.
That short-lived instant of happiness.
Of safety.
Departed.
