How can you understand me
When you have never been
What I’ve been through?
But then again







I
Don’t even understand me sometimes.
Was never very good at that
To tell the truth.
I choose to forget rather than try to understand.
Understanding








Just
Makes life too complicated if you ask me.
Trying to understand myself
Trying to understand others
But worst of all
Is when someone else says they understand.







Don’t
Know what makes them think that.
Sure they probably sympathize me;
Pity me;
They may even empathize with me to an extent
But they most certainly do not







Understand.
Like I said before
Understanding me means knowing.
Knowing what I’ve been through,
What I’m going through right now
Relating to this thing I call my







Life


The author's comments:
I was reading this book, Tricks, by Ellen Hopkins and each time it switched to a different persons story, it would begin with a poem. You could read that poem like a regular poem, but then you could look at the words off to the side and it would say something.
