Death of a Writer

A blank page
used to
excite my fingers,
make them yearn for a pen and
fill my head with
fantastic words and
tug at the deepest emotions
of my heart.
A blank page,
now,
makes my joints hurt and
gives me a headache that
empties my thoughts out and
leaves my soul as empty as
the spaces between its lines.
The newspaper has to
make some room in
the obituary section;
there's been a death.
