I’m afraid to love you,
because of what he did.
I’m afraid to let my guard down,
because I don’t want to get hurt again.
I’m afraid to open my heart to you,
because it could get broke again.
I’m afraid that if I tell you the truth,
it will just ruin me in the end.
I’m afraid that the pain he caused,
you will resurface again.
I’m afraid to be myself around you,
because it reminds me of what he did.
I’m afraid that no matter how careful I am
my heart will never win.
I’m afraid…

fabulous piece, I typically cant stand non rhyming poetry, but you fit it together smoothly and gave me the sensation that I was having a conversation with you. everything you conveyed contained power, it comes from the emotional trauma and the fear you eloquently express, keep up the writing and dont hold yourself back, you have talent and pain, use them both.
