The Violin
A violin sings a farewell song
As a boy says goodbye for the last time
Before he leaves his starving land
He holds his instrument close with his memories
 On the crowded ship
He places it carefully in the baggage place
As he passes through Ellis Island
The gateway to the golden country opens
He is admitted and is guided by the lady with the light
On the final leg of his journey
A man plays a song in his tiny room in New York City
The rats mock him and scurry
Around his bed on the floor
 But he smiles
And the violin sings welcome home
