I’m still swimming,
Still drowning,
in what I left behind,
Still struggling,
Trying vainly to pull free,
But every time I surface,
I find myself still lost,
In a California sea.
Ghosts and memories,
Pain and tears,
Swallow me,
Pulling me down,
Beneath their waves,
Into their sea.
I thought I left there,
Got away,
But now I realize,
That I’m still lost in that sea,
Forever swimming,
Unable to get free.
It plagues me,
Laughing as I drown,
Looking towards my dry land,
Oh, my Oklahoma shore,
Swimming faster,
But still lost in a California sea.
