"Why don't we take a walk?
Just while you're in town.
Don't worry my new friend,
I'll show you around.

"Come with me, my dear,
I know you'd love my friends,
And I'm sure they'll love you too,
By the time this trip meets end.

"So let's just stay and chat,
You won't be leaving soon,
Come on and join us all,
Singing our little tune.

"Why don't you come on over?
We could talk, play, and stuff,
You'll be leaving in a-few years,
Timing is well enough."

I know all that's what I said,
And I truly believed it true.
I had no reason to doubt,
No reason to 'treasure' you.

I expected you to stay,
You'd leave in at least a year,
But I guess that I was wrong,
Or else you'd still be here.

With no notice, no attention,
No messages were sent,
To keep me in the loop,
And I'm not sure it's what you meant.

We shared a year in life,
Our paths then intertwined,
But since you didn't tell me,
You messed with my state-of-mind.

I know I wasn't your best,
But I certainly wasn't your worst,
I also wasn't last,
If anything I was a first.

I hope you didn't mean it,
I hope my thoughts aren't right,
Did I do something wrong?
Did we get in a fight?

I wish you would have called me,
And I wish you'd kept me alert,
But you didn't, despite our friendship,
And I just want you to know: It hurt.
