"I may not be perfect, but Jesus thinks I'm to die for."

A thousand miles away from you
And I can’t seem to believe
That what’s happened to so many
Is now happening to me

My head swirls with memories
And water drips from my eyes
Tears choke up my throat
Why did I tell myself these lies?

I should have spent more time
With the one who gave me hope
Now moments away from your eternal future
It’s hard for me to cope

I should have seen it coming
But I blocked it from my mind
Over and over I ask myself
Why I wasn’t by your side

To me, you seemed immortal
The pure depiction of love and strength
But now, as I sit a thousand miles away
I wring my hands with angst.

It’s coming on so suddenly,
Like a slap across the face
You mean so much to me
Your pain, I want to erase

Please, give me time to get there
Let me stand by your side
Let me see your smile one last time
Let me whisper a soft good-bye

Let me think of us together
And all the happy times
The thought of losing you I just can’t bear
So please, not now.
Don’t die.

This is in memory of someone I loved very much who died. Time passed, but I couldn't stop thinking about them, and thus this poem.
