in love
deep red velvet skies give way to
holding hands in the pale moonlight
light blue eyes fixed on each other
flying, soaring, weightless
headlights flash their bright white eyes
wind rushes through those tall bare trees
you whisper something to make me laugh
and send cool shivers down to my knees
walking, controlled falling, a faint definition
in love, my friend, control is lost
but in meadows and fields of your white paper flowers
it’s up to us to measure the cost
so we run and run and run and run
to towns painted over with gold
with makeshift roses and late Christmas cards
where we don’t need to do what we’re told
