even after all these years the sun has never said to the earth, you owe me... look at what a love like that can do, it can light up the sky

Blue eyes, white skin
Blue eyes, white skin
Blue eyes, white skin
Brown hair, brown skin

I can see the way they look at us,
Like they want to stare but know it’s rude
And I know it shouldn’t bother me, so I don’t let it
But I can tell it bothers him

They ask me if it’s weird, to have him living with us
But I say no, because it isn’t
It’s the only thing I’ve ever known
And I like it that way

I think about it a lot, about how hard it must be
In history, when you make a family tree, in science, when you talk about recessive traits
To not know who you came from
Or why they let you go

But when they ask me about my family
I say mine’s special and I’m proud of it
I’m proud of my mom and my dad and my African American brother
Whom all mean so much to me

Blue eyes, white skin
Blue eyes, white skin
Blue eyes, white skin
Brown eyes, brown skin

I wrote this piece about my adopted brother and my family after a girl in my grade asked me about him. I hope people understand that i dont see a difference because my parents adopteded him before i was born, so he has always been here, and i love him.
