As the moon floats up into the star-speckled sky
darkness cloaks our eyes
and rocks us to sleep.
The mystery
of the sun’s absence
draws us into a state of mind-
an in between world,
where dreams tickle our noses
and fear drips into our merely conscious thoughts
from the leak
of childhood monsters
that might still live under our heads.
And yet,
whatever adventures might greet us in our night time hours
will soon vanish from our memory
and only an aftertaste of our second life
will linger on our tongues.
