Grandmother
I closed my eyes,
It's any easy thing to do,
And opened them to bright colors,
I took a step forward,
Not thinking about the effort it took,
Because there was no effort at all,
I took a breath,
Something I do each moment,
Without even pausing to think,
My heart beat uncountable times,
And I don't even have to concentrate to make that miracle happen,
To be alive…
And now,
I'm watching her wither away,
Slowly saying good bye to all those little things,
I turn so she can't see my tears
How could I ever take this for granted?
