Morning sunlight fades to grey

As the black clouds fill my mind

The sorrow is too much

To me it seems to bind

My life seems a reckless pain

Where nothing will go right

My heart wants to reach to you

But you have already left my life

The birds cry softly outside my window

Echoing my internal pain

I whisper your name in a desperate plea

But you cannot hear and its all in vain

I drag my lifeless feet out of bed

And stumble to the sink

The man I see across from me

Shocks me, frightens me

Since everything had gone wrong

I had not really cared.

My eyes were sunken in

My hair a tangled mess

But today was the day I would change for the best

And become the man I wanted to be

Not stuck to what you wanted any more

For I am a simple man

A dreaming man

A happy man

I will be changed to a better man

For I have a plan today

There is that girl I always knew

I loved her the best,

More than you

The girl who always stood aside

And watched me

Watched

As I pushed her by

The girl who just waited for me to see

Who I really wanted to be

The mistake I was making being with you

You lied to me, I lied to you.

The truth in our relationship would never last

She knew that one day I would open my eyes

And see how I should push you by

OH! For I am a simple man

A dreaming man

A happy man

I will be changed to a better man

For I have a plan today

I walk down the street

Singing a tune

Dancing away

To my musical tune

Running down the street

Becoming happier with each step

Thinking how life would never be the same

In a much better way

I stop in front of the shop

Fixing my tie

Turning the handle

And walking inside

OH! OH! For I am a simple man

A dreaming man

A happy man

I will be changed to a better man

For I have a plan today

I ask the man at the countertop

If she is here

If she is here

The man hits me with a devastating blow

She is not here

She is not here

I walk away a helpless man

For she is not here

I cannot kiss the lass

I walk to the train station to head to my job

To board the train

To let my head float away in dreaming thoughts

Dreams that can’t and never will be true

But in your head a dreams a dream

A thoughts a thought

Everything is never as it seems

It’s a place to escape away

From the pain of the world

To the pain you’ve felt today

Suddenly I feel a tap

A gentle nudge

Hear a gentle laugh

One that sounds like a thousand bells

Swaying in the wind

That beautiful sound

I stand up and see her there

Grab her arms

And stare into her eyes

In them is hope and fear.

I stroke her hair back from her face

And lean down

She was eager to find out what I will do

If her love is mine

And I smile and give her a kiss

A gentle kiss

An eager kiss

For I smiled and gave her a kiss

Full of passion, love and fading pain

Oh, for I am a simple man

A dreaming man

A happy man

I will be changed to a better man

For I have a plan today

"The only thing we're allowed to do is hope that we won't regret the decision we made."

Wow, quite the long poem. You should let Miss S. use it for Poetry Response sometime, eh? Anyway, pretty nice!
