My Friend
You came into my life
 That summer
 So sullen
 So proud
 Never speaking
 To Me

 But I made you speak
 I wanted to listen
 I opened my heart
 I cried your tears

 When you were wrong
 I stood by you
 Never faltering
 Always there

 I defended your
 Actions,
 But I told you
 “That is wrong”
 Even when I told others
 “She is right”

 I stayed at your side
Even when my smile came harder
 And my laughter became false

 I still
 Listened
 Spoke
 Loved

 You are the sister
 Of my soul
 I know who you are
 Inside

 You are not cold
 And Hard
 Like you pretend to be
 You are soft
 You are warm

 I can feel you change
 Becoming busy
 Not listening to my words
 That you think
 Are hollow

 But the words are true
 They are spoken from
 The person who was there
 When no one else was

 Who wished she could
 Cry your tears
 Feel your pain
 Live your loss
I tried to encompass all the
 Hurt

 Tried, but failed
The words, so true, struck against
 The shield that was
 Protecting your soul
 They fell off
Scattered to the floor of your
 Heart

 Among the dust
 And shattered dreams
The grand ideals that are lost

 I tried
I spoke the words I felt
 But they weren’t enough

 Maybe someday
 You will pick them up
 Dust them off
 And listen to the words

 Of your sister
 Who loves you

 I didn’t mean
 To fail you
 I wanted to fix
 All that was broken

 But I think
 I made the pieces smaller
 Ground them to dust

 I’m sorry

When life gives you lemons make grape juice. Then sit back and watch everyone look at you in amazement. :)
Thanks! I have yet to show it to the person I wrote it about, but I am glad it sounds from the heart, because that is where it definitely came from. :)
