The Fire
I woke up in a cold sweat.
Something was wrong, there was a threat.
I started to cough violently and I smelled smoke.
Could this be a dream?Because it felt like a joke.
Never, had I been so frightened in my life.
I got out of bed and found a sharp knife.
Creeping out of my room I saw flames.
This was no dream, this was no game.
The fire was downstairs, but so was my phone.
As I was thinking, the fire had grown.
 It was spitting and churning,
 My skin was burning.
I sprinted through a fire free zone,
Only to trip and fall, I think I broke a bone.
I dialed 911, looking for an escape.
No answer, it was a prerecorded message on a tape.
I tried again, while coughing and wheezing.
The door was close, it was so tempting so teasing.
All exits were blocked, the operator picked up.
I asked if she could save me she answered "Yup".
Sirens roared in the distance, could I survive?
As I started to lose conscious, they arrived.
Burns covered me, but I was still there.
I had survived the fire, I now had fresh air.
I inhaled as much as I could.
The feeling was indescribable. It was just so good.
I had a few broken bones and many burns.
My family was at the ER, eyes full of concern.
The next day I woke up. I had survived.
