The Nature of You
The first raindrops fall
Disturbing the relative peace of your inhabitants
They slide down, toward the mossy green floor
Gently caressing your curves
Lightning strikes
A mother, dwelling within, shrieks as she struggles to protect her young
Everything comes alive as you stand there, unmoving, unforgiving, unchanging.
The sun has risen, drying up the last of yesternight’s rain
Each dawn sheds new light on the world
And that which yesterday might have been strong, silent, and unkind,
Is today the greatest comfort nature has to offer.
A dandelion seed finds its way into my lap
Coming to a stop just on my open palm
As I sit in your cool shade
I close my eyes and
Relax, leaning up against you
Letting your timeless energy flow through me
And smile.
