Balance and Belief
I once knew of a man
In a dusty stretch of sky
Stretched his leg long
In case he should try
To leap up and dive
In the dusty yellow sky
And fly, fly, fly
(Until this thought was through)
With his heavy, darkened heart
And a heavy useless limb
He stretched his useful leg
A right leg long and trim.
Ideal for holding bottles
And other items of his whim.
But grim, grim, grim
(He felt about the night)
And as the sky grew darker,
His wooden crutch began to tilt,
He placed a hand upon a hip,
And watched the mounting silt
Of the sandstorm in the distance,
And it ringed him deep with guilt
‘Till the stilt, stilt, stilt
(Could hardly hold him up)
