But Where Are You?
I zip up my dress
 And put on my shoes
 I wait and wait
 But where are you?

 I want to be mad
You’ve never stood me up; true
 I’ve always been around
 But where are you?

 My phone rings
There’s been a wreck. Involving who?
 Why’d they call me?
 Where are you?

 I survey the damage
 A tear falls. Maybe two.
I see classmates all dressed up, crying
 But where are you?

 My hands stay empty
 As my body moves
 I twirl around and around
 But where are you?
