Placebo
Today I hate me,
so I decided to be someone else.
I switched my faded blue jean and oversized fleece
For deep V curves and spandex skin.
I traded my tattered red high tops
For slingy, smacky, strappy stilettos.
I painted on a new face
and smoothed my clumsy curls.
But at the end of the night,
with glittery black smudges smeared beneath my eyes,
tufts of wild hair fighting the hours slaved to an iron
and callused, disfigured, pink toes,
the same
disappointed
hopeless
pathetic
eyes
stared at the stranger in my reflection.
