My Dear in the Headlights

No wonder my heart is so easy to bruise
it's only protected by bits
of bone and tissue
but even if i could cage my heart with steel
to keep you and everyone else out
i wouldn't because i rather
sew my eyelids shut with eyelashes than
to never feel heartbreak again because
it's better to be blind than
to be broken and love
can heal the open
heart.
