Ms. Jensen's Garden
I sit there watching,
 But what am I watching?
The trees shooting into the sky,
Or the grass blowing in the wind?
 Am I watching these things?
I’m sitting here underneath the Willow
 I watch the kids play,
 Tag, wall ball, and hopscotch.

 I sit there thinking,
 But what am I thinking?
 How life will go on,
 Or my most recent breakdown?
 Am I thinking these things?
I’m sitting here underneath the Willow
 I think about the kids,
 Running, laughing, and jumping.

 I sit there feeling,
 But what am I feeling?
The scars running down my arms,
Or the soft grass tickling my legs?
 Am I feeling these things?
I’m sitting here underneath the Willow
 I feel the world’s presence,
 Wind, dirt, and grass.

 I sit here…
 Watching the world around me
Thinking about the life in this world
Feeling the stuff that makes life in this world
I’m sitting here underneath the Willow
I enjoy the presence of the garden
 Kids, noise, and nature
This is what it feels like
What it feels like when I’m not numb

I would love to not be numb
To be able to watch these things everyday
To be able and think these thought everyday
To be able to sit here and feel life
 When I am not numb,
Life is meant to be lived
