"I was outta luck the day the music died." -American Pie (the song)

Candy apples, lemon pies
a fake fruity taste.
My mother's mother must oblige
she really loves to bake.

She whips up the desert in time
for all of us to gather
and at her table we decide
which taste is simply badder.

Peach nut rolls and Twinkie Cake,
a taste one must acquire.
On her table since they're baked,
(Twinkies never expire).

Never ask for something simple,
she'll make it completely overdone,
and if she offers any treat,
keep your serving size to One.

I once made the mistake of asking my grandmother to make pumpkin pie for thanksgiving. She made peach, apple - cherry (yes, apples and cherries in one pie), and rhubarb. No pumpkin pie. I also made the mistake of asking for cranberry jelly (in a can... not that hard to find. no cooking required). She made seven kinds of cranberries (baked, cut, mixed, sauced, stewed, boiled..)
