As a child I watched daytime television while singing and dancing and everything else,
I never sat still because I was like some sort of Jack Russell Terrier,
So full of boundless energy, so high off of life,
I created a new planet everyday and wished to travel there with my feet and not my mind,
Someday,
But then the days passed and all too soon came the reality that not everyone gets a happily ever after,
That there are people with no happiness, no energy,
Just lavender paintings beneath hollow eyes,
As a child I watched my parent’s sadness and fatigue swing them around like puppets (as they discovered life after marriage),
I read books and watched the news and discovered lost causes,
Years of loneliness were yet to come as I realized that my friends weren’t the people I thought they were,
And I discovered that people wear masks,
Then one day my father bought me a telescope,
My ecstatic eyes stuck to the viewfinder,
But I only found a circle with some craters (no cow jumped over),
And some shiny dots (which barely twinkled),
I was disappointed to say the least,
The magic places I knew so well were yet to be discovered in real time,
Yet now that I have grown a little more I can appreciate the stars,
And how they reach down so far as to twinkle within the eyes of loved ones.
