Dear Hope
Dear Hope,
I’m sorry I haven’t been in touch lately,
it’s been awful busy here in my life.
I’m sorry that I haven’t visited…
I’m sorry that I sent you away.
You know I haven’t forgotten,
or left you behind,
but I can’t ask you to come back yet…
I can’t tell you that it’s fine.
The monsters in the closet
just refuse to go away,
and my knight in shining armor
still isn’t at my bay.
I keep believing I can fight.
I still refuse to quit,
and someday I will find the light
and understand that I am beat.
Hope, I refuse to let you rest,
you still exist to me,
but when the world
is black and gray
not even you can find the key.
My heart is crushed,
my trust is gone,
the world took it away.
So Hope,
that’s why I’ve made you safe,
so in my memory you’ll stay.
