Pleasing the Mirror
Why is it so hard to please the mirror?
A cold peice of glass,
Staring me down,
Judging me for my clothes,
My hair, my legs, my nose
A flat, cold surface
Seeing only my surface
But I'm more than that.
Yet I need to please the mirror;
Designer clothes, big shades
Skipping breakfast in hope of losing weight
Size two isn't small enough anymore.
It laughs at me, criticizing my flaws
Until I give up and start all over again;
I need to please the mirror
Straightening, curling,
Straightening again
Ponytail, half down,
Foundation, coverup
Eyeshadow, lipstick
A new face every day,
A new mask to hide behind
Until nothing remains
But a plastic, lifeless
Doll.
Why is it so hard to please the mirror?
