Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” -Howard Thurman

I’m Tugging on my black dress, It’s a perfect fit,
And I’m looking for imperfections in the mirror but my skin is flawless,
My hair lies perfectly across my head,
And my eyes don’t give away the pain I have felt or the tears I have shed in the past week.

I’m entering the Church,
My family is all together for the first time in a year,
Normally I would be happy, but one person is not there.

Back at the house the sun is streaming through the blinds as we laugh over stories of when we were younger,
A day later the dining room table is filled with flowers adding feelings of sweet spring in the air,
And I can hear the cries of children playing outside the sliding door, so joyous and carefree,
But regardless there is still a lot of tension around.

Cause when you lose that special someone,
You have to put on that black dress,
And remain close by your family’s side because you realize in the end they are the most important thing you have,
And when you see that the world keeps going although yours has temporarily stopped,
You still have to move forward, It is the only option you have got.

But moving forward is not the same as goodbye,
Because the people you love will always be a part of your life,
Branded across your heart,
Beside you with every difficult decision you make
They are a part of a beautiful memory that will never be erased.
