Forgotten
A crippled angel with broken wings
And a blank face
Cries in the middle of the night.
A faded laughter, a cold flame,
She is a bird without a song.
Her heart is as hollow as a drum,
Offbeat and out of tune,
Yet heavy with the untold secrets of life.
Does anyone even care
About the petite, fragile girl
With golden curls and silver eyes?
She imagines better days
And a better life.
In the morning, she awakes to the
Smell of smoke and liquor.
At dusk, she dreams of a far-away place
Where love is rich and the world is safe.
Everyone always ponders
But never takes the time for questions.
Pain can be impossible to see
When it is disguised by a mask.
The deep colored bruises, hidden by her baggy clothes,
Go beyond the surface of her pale skin.
The sour love of neglect
Is imbedded in her cuts.
She drowns her sorrows
In her salty tears,
That only flow behind closed doors.
Her existence is full of endless disappointments
And a continuous fight for survival.
She often wishes she were never born,
But knows God will never abandon her.
Please tell me why
Special things in life are so forgotten?
