Let in some sky
Bubbles fill a bath tub
As diamonds fill the sea
A mirror captures a condemned girl
Eyes replenished with self doubt
and dripping with distress.
Pupils, like black holes, imitate the raging sun
that's leaking through the window
through each thread of a bleak curtain -
Paling her already ivory skin as she sinks and hides
The rays lunge her toward a brighter day
A brighter side
Where the grass really is greener
And "coming up roses" defines liveliness
And love grows taller with each blossoming tulip
And stars trickle down from each eyelash.
She stares at the water, jabbing reality with her brain.
An army of bubbles are steadily battling her, crawling all over her like tiny rainbow spiders
At a war with self recognition.
With each stare into them she sees a mirror.
Distorted, but that's no different than her heart.
The mask of smiles she hides behind becomes visible.
She can see it now.
Everything.
Each lie, each fear, each hope, each tear.
Now break the mirror.
Escape the jail you've built for yourself.
Then break the mask.
Out drips confrontation from the faucet
Quiet and unhurried.
The drain is a magnet to her.
And the sun aches to bring her back to life.
