Poem for Mama
Mama’s gone,
I don’t know where she went
Daddy says she dead, says she took her life at dawn
He tells me he let her buy a room to rent
And that is when it happened, he said, as we sat out on the lawn
Daddy says it will be okay; we will make it by, but is that really what he meant?

Daddy says not to worry; he says it’s not my fault
But I don’t know what to do now that she’s lost
But I’ll I really want to do is go in that magic vault
And bring mama home, but that would be a heavy cost
Mama’s favorite drink was chocolate malt
I will never again have one, for if I did I would miss her, and feel like I was tossed.

I have been hoping that I will find her sitting at home one day
But that is imagination; I have to remember she is never coming back
I stare at my favorite picture of her; watching her laugh in May
In the last years she had never laughed or smiled, happiness was something she lacked
I asked Daddy where mama’s happiness went, all daddy said was “That’s just the way
she was,” I sit and wonder why Mama left me, eating brownies, my favorite snack

Mama, why’d you go, why did you leave me in this scary place?
I don’t know what to do without you here
Do you remember me and Daddy? Would you be able to spot me if you saw my face?
Did you ever love me? Did you even care? You have left me with so much fear
Mama, mama. Why did you leave? I say, as I cry into your dress made of white linen lace
How could you leave me mama? I yell, as my eyes fill with tears
