I wrote "Midnight Rain" on a very rainy day. I was sitting next to my window, watching the raindrops hit the glass, and they were my inspiration. I wanted to write about a sad, young girl who is contemplating about the wonders of life at midnight. She is supposed to be a dreamer who is free-spirited and carefree at heart. It's possible that she has had her heart broken, or she has stopped believing that dreams can come true, or maybe she has been betrayed. I left the reader to imagine what the reason may be for her mood. However, at the end of the poem, this girl finally smiles. I wanted the falling rain to symbolize letting go of the past, and washing away worries. It could also symbolize tears falling, and relieving your heart of the grief. I think that there are many meanings that someone could take from "Midnight Rain". This is one of my favorite poems that I've written, and I really hope it gets published because it's extremely personal and meaningful to me.
