Recovering
And then the words “I love you” feel from your lips
 Making your arms around me
 An impenetrable fort
Bringing me within the pale for the first time
In too long days, filled with creeping minutes that
Kept the images of him lurking in the corners of my eyes

Those words dripped off your tongue
Finally fading the scars scrawled across my hips
Scars that had been reopened by persistent fingers
 And empty hours

And as that phrase flowed through your throat
 A deep mahogany door opened
 Beckoning me to come home.
