To The Butterflies
My apologies
To the dead
In my stomach
That was rocked back and forth
Between right and wrong
Who fell to the acid
And silk was ripped away
The beautiful
Winged, antennae things
Who cried and danced for me
To abandon all safety
And fling myself from the ledge
Whose wings fluttered against my stomach
As I fell fell fell
Not realizing their mistake
'Til I was crumpled against the sharp
Jagged rocks of regret
Wanting to rip thru skin and muscle
To never feel their wings again
Get out!
My abortive hands begged
The wonderful that could have been
Infected bodies that would kill me
Thrown back to dust and dust
My apologies
To the butterflies
