I rise and fall
On the ebbing sea
Of good fortune
Accompanied by the cold song
Of coins changing hand
And the hypnotic rasp
Of oft creased bills
The days of revelry
Of silk
Of fine wines
And lavish feasts
Long ago departed
But a man may dream
Of the fate
That could have been
And never will be now
Unless the sea
Of good fortune
Should be stoked once again

This poem is about a man who was born into wealth, but lost it at the card table.

Wow. I LOVE this. ..and I must agree..Great imagery! My favorite line(s) is the 'accompanied by the cold song/of coins changing hand'. But really...I love the whole thing.

I like this a lot. Great imagery (which seems to be common in the majority of your poems that I've read so far :)!
