"When your life flashes before your eyes, make sure it's worth watching" - Unknown

A flag
A name
A home
Sure, they make me
But what sets me apart?

Third culture kid
Longing for expression
Confused by peers
And high school.

I am made
From the girl who pushed me away
Close friend
Rejected
Don't know why

I am made
From words
From thoughts
From a mind open to
Capturing
This world

I am made
From mistakes
From lessons
Not taught in class

I am made of a dream,
A hope for the future
To make a mark on this world

I was made from my parents
But in turn
I made myself.

The author's comments:
I originally wrote this poem as my first shot at slam poetry, but when I read it out loud it didn't have quite the kick as other slam poems I've heard performed, so I just left it as a free verse poem. The slam poetry competition I entered it into called for a poem based off the spark word of "identity," so I hope my poem fulfils my interpretation of that. :)
