The Writer's Curse
Some people tell me I have a gift
A talent with my words
That when you read them
They tell a story
And make you feel like you’re there
Inside a new world
Where nothing is real
I, sometimes, call it a curse
Being stuck behind the words
Playing the characters, but never actually
Playing the game
What game you ask?
The game of life
Writing does require some experience
In this maze we call conversation
But not much
Mostly just a vivid imagination
And a watchful eye
I can make up a thousand romantic situations
With confident and independent characters
But when real life comes in play
I strike out with the ones I like the most
I can’t guess what’s going to happen next
So I don’t risk making the next step
This is where the curse sets in
Unpredictable people are a writer’s worst challenge
Some say it’s boring to know what happens next
I say I like it
I can sit back and enjoy the ride
But life is unpredictable
And overcoming these bends in the road
Good or bad
Are all part of
The Writer’s Curse
