Embers
You’re like a flame
 Seeing you warmed my heart
 But lately you’ve been swaying
To and fro in the wind of my life
You went out a few times
 Through the embers you left
 Still burn in my mind
 Like little wisps
 Until you rekindle
Once again, in the forefront of my thoughts
 Sometimes I’m unsure
If you even want to be here
Your enticing smell has left you
 And you’ve become ordinary
 Perhaps I’m ready to look
 For something new
 Something consistent and
 The impossible—merely a dream
 Because the embers you left
 Cannot be extinguished
