A friend is someone who
shares a passion, a love, a faith.
A friend is someone who
loves without judging, to the very end
A friend is someone who
stands beside you through trial and fate
A friend is someone who
has a hug, a smile, a comforting word
to heal a broken heart

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem after breaking away from a group of friends who just hurt me. I wanted to have standards about who my new friends would be, so I wrote the definition of a friend.
