A Crack in the Spotlight
With a jump so high that the angels would see,
the crowd stared in awe as she landed with ease.
They hooted, they hollered, a volcano with a roar.
They clapped, they clamored, feet stomping on the floor.
An elegant curtsy, a walk 'cross the stage,
as the crowd stood up and kept screaming her name.
With the whip of the curtain, she saw her father's glare.
She wouldn't see the stage again, she knew by his stare.
Snow falling, snow falling, like tears from the sky.
Dreams that are broken, like tears from the sky.
Car rushing, car rushing, all the way home.
Dreams that are broken, car rushing to home.
"To your room right now!" her father would shout.
With a yell and a pout, the tutu was thrown out.
Her father would ignore her cries down the hall.
While she stared out the window to watch the snow fall.
