Lessons Learned
We came each day
 We moaned
 We groaned
But we learned all the same
 Homework piled
 The stress level rised
 But we never
 Let it get us down
 Then the end arrived
 At first we cheered
 And celebrated
 But then we hesitated
 Realizing what we'd gained
 Not just knowledge
 But friendships
 And we became disjointed
Now we didn't want to leave
 For the year to end
 Meant friendships lost
 With only memories
 Of what had been

 Until a lone child
 stood and called out:
 What?
We'll let this get us down?
 No. We're united
 Undivided
 No matter when or where
 So what's one summer
 But a bummer?
 We will return again
 And then we'll moan
 And we'll also groan
 But we will have learned
 All the same

 Our spirits lifted
 We cheered yet again
 For we'd finally learned
 A lesson that mattered
