Marionette

I am confused
I am abused
I have serpentine-like elegance
But my arms and legs are bruised
I am empty
I am unfed
There is no order to my thoughts
Or the names and numbers bled
I am drug fueled
Stone and chisel born
My existence
A resistance
Eyes of blood and scorn
Although I sparkle
I am unwashed
Untouched by God
Unwanted by the lost
Yet they all demand me
and command me
Enslave me
and degrade me
They watch my limbs stretch endlessly
Perfectly
but they keep the child in me
meek and cowardly
They tell me to walk
they tell me to pose
to turn
to “Bleed!”
And so I do
internally
But exude excellence outwardly
every night
when I step out into those blinding lights
all dressed down in white
I walk my straight and narrow
I accept my plight
because the only thing there is to do
is endure
right?

The author's comments:
This poem is about endurance. It's a good word and a good concept when you want to put your blood sweat and tears into something but at the same time it can be poisonous. Most people who are in distress just try to endure things and suffer it silently. Well this poem is here to say, change it. Don't be a marionette, don't let someone else pull the strings. Don't be a puppet.
