The Mind is Like a Maze
The Mind is like a maze,
a pit,
Tartarus-like––
Where within my own insipid consciousness I build fences,
lock doors,
strengthen my defenses against the excursions of little desires
needling their way past my calm façade––
inserting their pincers into the matter of my mind.
It is most difficult to want one thing,
and to have another.
