Perfect Girl

A sweet song dances out of the speakers.
It swirls through the air, as the voices curl along.

The beats and notes pat down my ears
The lyrics begin to enter my vulnerable mind.
No one really knows when, or if, the words will depart.

It’s all as nifty as an old radio show or dance party.
Questions, voices, answers and people all jumbled about.

A single sound, trying ferociously to weave through the crowd.
A teenage girl with the brightest smile,
She breezily catches and captures the worlds eyes.

I stand silently behind her, fingers crossed.
I wonder repeatedly when, it will be my turn.

To drown delightfully in the spotlight.
Or even, to catch a single glance or thought.
The tears stay firmly hidden behind my long, lashes.

The overwhelming music continues on it’s journey.
A voice drifting in and out of a chorus.

A drummer rambunctiously tossing his sticks in the air.
About as lightly as an elephant might walk about the world.

The perfect girl starts dancing wildly.
My fingers uncross, my eyelids widen, night has begun again.
