Splatter paint: blue sky and rose blush

across the hearts that dare not beat.

Veins of color pretty the lack

of life. Organically displayed for us

to contemplate, observe, and ask:

Did they beat on in unison with love?

Did they wheeze, choke, collapse, or fade away?

Each heart extinguished differently,

the pulsing beats slowed separately,

a rhythmic stroke for each thump.

All lives ending in colored canvas dreams;

striped and dyed, contrasting against black.

One hundred fifty six lives lost

for art: a gorgeous way to die.
